Indian startups raised between $590 million and $830 million in the three weeks from 28 September to 17 October 2026, depending on which tracker you read. Two rounds stood far above the rest: Simple Energy's Rs 1,750 crore Series C and SiMa.ai's $150 million.
Those two rounds made the totals. The rest of the month tells a steadier story: seed rounds every week, a run of acquisitions by large companies, new funds, and India's biggest IPO opening for subscription. For a founder raising now, all of it points to the same work after the term sheet, which we cover at the end.
Week by Week
Entrackr and Inc42 both publish weekly tallies. They rarely match, because they decide differently which companies count as Indian. SiMa.ai shows the gap: it is a San Jose chip company with operations in India, and Entrackr counts its round while Inc42 does not.
| Week | Entrackr | Inc42 |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Sep to 3 Oct | $411.46M across 24 startups | $233.6M across 16 startups |
| 5 to 10 Oct | $113.35M across 28 startups | $122.9M across 25 startups |
| 12 to 17 Oct | $302.85M across 28 startups | $236.2M across 25 deals |
Inc42's weeks end a day earlier (2, 9 and 16 October). Reports for the week from 19 October had not been published when this was written.
The swing is sharp. The first week was the busiest, then funding fell by more than 72% the next week, by Entrackr's count, before rising 2.7 times in the third week on the back of eight growth-stage rounds worth $220.37 million.
The Largest Rounds
| Startup | Raised | Led by | Business |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple Energy | Rs 1,750 crore, Series C | Family office of Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani | Electric scooters |
| SiMa.ai | $150M, Series C | Fidelity Management & Research and Amplify | Chips for physical AI |
| Tessolve Semiconductor | $75M | Vector Line Capital | Semiconductor engineering |
| Boldfit | Over Rs 400 crore, Series B | Bharat Value Fund | Fitness products |
| DailyObjects | Rs 332 crore, Series C | Xponentia Capital, Anicut Capital, Axiom Asia | Lifestyle accessories |
| GreenCell Mobility | $34.6M | Impact Fund Denmark | Electric bus services |
| RapidCanvas | $29M, Series B | Vertex Ventures SEA & India | AI agents for business |
| Scimplify | $25M, strategic round | Hitachi Ventures | Specialty chemicals |
| AuxoAI | $20.7M, Series A | NTTVC | Enterprise AI |
| Origin | $20M | Accel and Zacua Ventures | Construction robotics |
Simple Energy says the round is all equity and will pay for a new plant, higher production and a bigger sales and service network. It is the company's largest raise and takes its total funding past Rs 2,530 crore. SiMa.ai's round valued it at $1.45 billion.
Seed Money Kept Moving
Behind the large cheques, most deals were small. Entrackr counted 9, 13 and 12 seed rounds in the three weeks, more than any other stage each time. AI was the busiest theme: in Inc42's count for 12 to 16 October, six AI startups raised $53.4 million, more than any other sector.
Bengaluru led every week, with 13, 10 and 19 deals, well ahead of Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. Consumer brands stayed in demand too, with rounds for Boldfit, DailyObjects, Nat Habit and Beyond Appliances.
Who Bought Whom
Large companies used October to buy into startups they already knew. Marico paid Rs 1,012.03 crore for a further 24.09% of Satiya Nutraceuticals, the company behind Plix. ITC completed its purchase of Sproutlife Foods, which makes Yoga Bar, by buying out the remaining shareholders.
Zen Technologies agreed to take 51.98% of Cogknit Semantics, a Bengaluru defence software company, for up to Rs 135.15 crore. It is buying existing shares and subscribing to new Series A preference shares that convert into equity, and expects to close by 13 December. Global IT advisory firm Infotech bought Bengaluru software startup Zluri, and Hoola Health bought UpTodd, an early-childhood development platform. Neither disclosed a price.
Early backers also found ways out. Qualcomm Ventures sold a 0.98% stake in Shadowfax for Rs 157.28 crore on the open market, and Stable Money bought back employee stock options for the second time in four years.
New Funds and a Record IPO
Fundamentum Frontier Advisors raised Rs 3,000 crore for growth-stage AI and deeptech companies, with Nandan Nilekani as an anchor investor. NABVENTURES reached Rs 450 crore at the first close of a Rs 1,500 crore fund, Recur Club set aside Rs 500 crore for D2C brands, and WEH Ventures announced the first close of a third fund, targeting Rs 250 crore for seed-stage startups.
Jio Platforms opened its Rs 30,213 crore IPO on 21 October, described as the biggest share sale India has seen. The price band is Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119, anchor investors put in Rs 8,110 crore, and listing is expected on 28 October. Tonbo Imaging's Rs 852 crore IPO is due to list on 23 October.
The Paperwork Behind Every Round
Every round in the tables above, large or small, went through the same legal steps before the money could be spent. These are the ones founders most often get wrong, in the order they come up:
- Price the shares on a valuation. A foreign investor cannot be issued shares below fair value, so the price needs a valuation from a chartered accountant, a SEBI-registered merchant banker or a practising cost accountant.
- Keep the money in a separate account. Money raised by private placement goes into its own bank account and stays untouched until the shares are allotted and the allotment is filed.
- Allot within 60 days. If the shares are not allotted within 60 days of receiving the money, it must be returned within the next 15 days, with interest after that.
- File the allotment. Form PAS-3 goes to the Registrar of Companies within 15 days of allotment.
- Report foreign money to the RBI. Form FC-GPR is due on the RBI's FIRMS portal within 30 days of allotment. Convertible notes are reported on Form CN within 30 days of issue. Missing either means late fees or a compounding application.
One worry has gone. Budget 2024 abolished the angel tax for every class of investor from the 2025-26 financial year, so a startup is no longer taxed for raising money above fair value.

In short
In the first three weekly reports covering October 2026 (28 September to 17 October), Entrackr counted $411.46 million, $113.35 million and $302.85 million raised by Indian startups. Inc42's weekly counts for nearly the same weeks were $233.6 million, $122.9 million and $236.2 million, because the two trackers count deals differently. The largest rounds were Simple Energy's $182 million Series C and SiMa.ai's $150 million. Notable acquisitions included Marico's Rs 1,012.03 crore purchase of a further 24.09% of Plix's parent and Zen Technologies' deal for 51.98% of Cogknit Semantics.
- Weekly funding swung from about $113 million to over $400 million, and a handful of large rounds drove most of the total.
- Simple Energy (Rs 1,750 crore, Series C) and SiMa.ai ($150 million, Series C) were the two biggest rounds; Tessolve Semiconductor raised $75 million.
- Seed and pre-seed made up most deals by count, and Bengaluru led every week by number of deals.
- Acquisitions included Marico raising its stake in Plix, ITC completing Yoga Bar, Zen Technologies buying into Cogknit, and Infotech buying Zluri.
- Jio Platforms opened a Rs 30,213 crore IPO, described as India's biggest share sale.
- Every priced round still needs the same paperwork: allotment within 60 days, the return of allotment, and FC-GPR within 30 days when the money is foreign.
